CAFES
-
Sisterfields: modern furnishings with grand marble bar to highlight this café. Coffee as good as your finest Melbourne brew and indoor outdoor dining!
-
Corner House: Set (derrr) on the corner of eat St. Modern Australian cuisine with a rustic chic. Cathedral ceilings that let the natural light in. Delicious menu!
-
Revolver Espresso: a juxtaposition to all the island vibes the rest of the cafes give. Revolver has a bad arse charm in it's décor and serves a mean coffee. Some say the best coffee in Bali!
-
Shelter Bali: set on a rooftop garden, Shelters breezy feel matches its health orientated menu from acai bowls to falafel wraps. Grab your morning coconut juice...in a coconut...with ice and lime!
-
Nalu Bowls Seminyak: tucked away in the backstreets of Seminyak (underneath Shelter), yet well worth the search! Where acai bowls began...and these guys are the experts...tastes even better since it's served in a coconut shell!
-
Sacred Ground: Big hearty burgers, delicious wood fired pizzas and seriously cool décor.
-
SOUQ Organic: just tell your partner you'll take them to this seriously awesome café for breakfast...but what is this? When you turn up SOUQ is actually a homewares and clothing shop! You didn't even know!!! But while he or she is elbow deep into their tropical fruit toast and cold pressed juice...you can "go to the bathroom" and "accidentally" detour into their delightful shop!
-
The Fat Turtle: I wasn't sure if I was allowed to eat my breakfast when served here...because each dish looks like a work of art! It felt wrong to eat it...but it did taste soooo good! One of the best smashed avocado breakys in Seminyak.
-
Earth Café: Namaste bitches. If you want to detox, eat well or make yourself feel better from the amount of Bintangs you sank the night before...then head to Earth Café. They serve a organic, plant based and healthy menu...but don't be fooled by thinking healthy is bland, their meals are rich with flavour and taste (and if you want to stock up on your vegan treats, then they also have a shop there too)
-
Dough Darlings: Doughnut leave Bali without trying a Dough Darlings doughnut if you have a sweet tooth! Each doughnut is handcrafted individually...and you can taste the love in them with each bite!
-
Sea Circus: time to "check in" on facebook and Insta your pic out the front! The name explains it all, the walls are laden with brightly coloured abstract shapes and the contrast of the white and aqua throughout helps give this café its island vibe. Prepare for scrumptious nourish bowls, grilled corn with cheese and mouth watering breaky salads to greet you for your morning delights!
-
Strawberry Fields: Burger heaven!!!! A small drive out of main Seminyak will take you here for a well worth gigantic burger! Hungover...here's your joint. Grab your fried chicken burger piled on with grilled cheese and coleslaw that towers higher than your imagination right now! For those that can't deal with the grease...try their smashed avo 4 ways!
-
The Spicy Coconut: raw, vegan and organic. The Spicy Coconut will tantalise your tastebuds and blind your eyes with the beauty of their meals! How good is it when something that looks so good...also tastes so good too!
-
Bo and Bun: Vietnamese...in Bali...and you Aussies....don't want to miss out! Boa's stuffed full of spicy goodness, Vietnamese pork rolls or tom yam soup, I could eat one of everything on their menu and then come back the next day and do it all over again!
-
Uma Kopi: A little hidden gem. Step through the unassuming villa gates in to a small Eden. Enjoy your breakfast hidden off the busy streets here with charming service
-
Kynd Community: even if you are opposed to social media or refuse to take photos of food...then I challenge you not to here. Kynd Community is a plant based café that will tailor make your acai bowl with a greeting all made out of tropical fruit! Be sure to try one of their iced coconut coffees!
-
Grain: modern cuisine, modern décor, great bites and hearty meals! Live music on weekends for dinner
-
Kilo Bali: just off Eat St, a minimalistic restaurant that perfectly mismatches the bamboo jungle it's surrounded by. Modern menu with Japanese influences, perfect service
-
Café Organic: attention garden gangstas...get your dose of green goodness here! Café Organic is just that...serving amazingly delicious meals using only fresh locally farmed produce!
-
Watercress Bali: yuuuuuuum! This is one of those places you'll convince your partner to get what you want...because you can't decide and you want to taste it all. With freshly baked sweet treats made daily...just remember to leave a little space for after your 2nd coffee.
-
Living Stone Bakery: if you just travel here to take a photo of their awesome watermelon bread (yes, you heard right) then I think you've spent your time well. But at least reward your artistic photography skills with a meal as well and you won't be disappointed! Every corner of this café is photo worthy, inside, outside, upstairs...you choose where you'd like to be served your big breakfast!

RESTAURANTS
Are you saying to me...didn't we just cover restaurants?? No, I was just getting warmed up! Here are some of the Seminyak icons. PLEASE, do not leave Bali without trying at least one of these!

-
Motel Mexicola: please, please, please...go to Motel! It's like taco Tuesday every single day of the week. This place looks like they've gathered everything that is bright, shiny and happy into one gigantic piñata and then lit some TNT under it and let it land all over their restaurant. It's one of those places you need to see, to believe and I promise you won't be disappointed! It's hot. It's sweaty. And loud. And it all just adds to the Mexicano Fiesta feels. From the moment the (hot!! Sorry husband but there's no denying it) Maître D guides you through the restaurant to squish you into a table and direct the dancing waiters chanting to the chilled house music as they bring you your cocktails, you can't help but start to clap and join in the party! You'll love the guacamole, soft shell tacos and throw it all down with a jug of sangria. Definitely a "must do "for me!
-
La Favela: imagine having dinner in the middle of a tranquil jungle smack bang in the heart of Seminyak! Well La Favela provides just that. Every single square cm of this place has been strategically placed, designed to make you feel you're miles away from the hustle outside the front doors and it is AMAZING! It is so big, you could actually get lost in here. The centrepiece a mini aqua lake to dine over. Enter through the unassuming door to enter this alternate world! So many secret corners and nooks to explore and all with the Cristo Rendentor (Rio's Jesus statue) protruding from the roof line to ensure you enjoy your dinner and that your water...will always be wine!
-
The Bistrot: Located just next door to La Favela, The Bistrot is like a vintage refuge from the crazy streets. Grand chandeliers oppose the rustic décor, the French style windows only allowing enough of the busy street sightings in as you enjoy the delicious cuisine of modern traditional but with an Asian hint. This place is opulent, decadent and so are their meals!
-
Char Char Bar and Grill: Seriiously, props to you Bali for coming up with the most amazing conceptual designs! Like people watching? Me too. Well this restaurant has been designed just for that! Stadium style seating that faces onto "Eat St" all with tables in between so you can relax, have an afternoon cocktail or choose a delicious meal from the grill and watch the world go by!
-
Sea Vu Play: Ahoy!!!! Me hardys! Fancy dining in a tropical maritime themed restaurant with palm tress laced in fairy lights, a sailing boat as the bar and nautical paraphernalia to make you feel like you're a part Swiss Family Robinson? Then look no further than Sea Vu Play! You can't help but smile when you enter and you'll feel right at home with that ugly Hawaiian shirt that you always get ripped off for wearing! With a delicious menu to match the lively décor...you cant help but eat, drink and be merry! Arrrrrrrrrr.
-
Barbacoa: Bring in the nannys and book in your date night at Barbacoa! Although EVERYWHERE is kid friendly in Bali....this one would be even better if you didn't have to slam your meal down your throat in order to finish and get the kids to bed! The large warehouse space has a warm tone that towers over the rice paddies out the back. It's Latin American influence creates a menu that is modern yet unpretentious and oh so scrumptious!! The centrepiece a huge charcoal grill, BBQ-ing treats from tapas to hearty feasts! Yum.
-
Zibiru: We could not believe we stumbled upon this little Italian gem! Right out front of our villa, tired from a big day of doing....nothing....we decided to "give it a go". Walk down the small laneway and you'll feel you've been thrown into a small Tuscan cottage...choose to sit in the restaurant and peer through the majestic French windows or in the courtyard that has a swing to keep the kids entertained (and for you to insta!) As the sun sets, the courtyard gets lit up with hundreds of tealight candles...and even have old black and white Italian movies projected onto their back wall to immerse you fully into this ristorante! Now the menu...they say it takes a genius to be able to cook an amazing dish with just a few ingredients...and this Italian chef does not disappoint. My porcini linguine has to be hands down the BEST pasta I have ever had...big call right? Well I am willing to call it. The service is immaculate, welcoming and the small gestures of complimentary breads with oils and soup for starters is such a lovely touch. The chef even delivering our bill to have a quick chat and to see whether we enjoyed our experience...ummm...YES! Big fat YES! A thousand times YES!
-
Sarong: Time to book the Nanny again! Because little ones...you're not allowed to come here...this one is for the grown ups! Put away your Havianas for the night and pop on those heels that have been hiding away in the back of your suitcase and get yourself to this South East Asian inspired restaurant that is dedicated to giving you the finest of modern cuisine but still with authentic flavours! Pair your dish with one of their mind blowing cocktails from fairy floss topped martinis to tropical fruity goodness...the décor is as lush as its menu and it'll tick all the boxes of getting your 'grown up time' away from the rug rats!
-
La Lucciola: set right on one of the most beautiful stretches of Seminyak beach, a monstrosity of a bamboo structure purpose built to ensure every single seat in the house captures the sunset! Kids can roam out the front on the grassy lawn that leads to the beach lined with palm trees, while the grown ups get to sink some Bintangs and sample the modern Mediterranean menu!
-
Frankensteins Laboratory: This one is not for the faint hearted, but if you like a quirky themed restaurants and your kids like all things gross and gory...then head to Frankenstein's to be served your drinks in test tubes, syringes and IV fluid bags matched with awesome an Aussie style menu of burgers, woodfired pizzas and also Indonesian favourites whilst being entertained with the cabaret show! Seriously a fun family night out!
-
Bikini: This restaurant delivers a fine dining experience without the snobby atmosphere! It instead injects a feeling of excitement and vibrance through its pink hues and neon lighting! Try their degustation dinner that will wow even the hardest foodie critics. The service is humble for what this restaurant proudly boasts!
-
Merah Putih: When I talk about the concepts of restaurants Bali delivers...then this one is definitely on the top of the list. Merah Putih is grand. It is a visual delight! Set in a glasshouse with cathedral ceilings that are warmly lit, trees weaved between tables and a mezzanine level with woven pods for private dining creates this majestic sanctuary! Merah creates a tantalizing menu that is Indonesian inspired. They deliver your meals to the middle of the table to encourage you to share and enjoy your food just as they do in their family homes.
-
Batik: I have to admit, I have not been to this restaurant...but REALLY wanted to go! I was scared my messy kids would wrecked their all white perfectly poised restaurant. This beautiful venue is everything I imagine my home to look like (yet I know it will never happen) The white and beige theme gives a light and beachy feel mixed with the bright green foliage...it all just works! The menu is Asain, with a twist of modern elegance to match the surroundings.
-
Da Maria: Ciao Bella! Da Maria has brought the ambience of The Amalfi coast to the heart of Seminyak and boosted it with some steroids! It is a colourful bonanza of white, yellow and blues that mirror the energy of the sand, sun and sea! Get all your favourite carbs all in the one place...pizza, pastas and breads to fill your hungry void. the kids will love their own Bambini menu that will twist the arms of even the fussiest of eaters!
-
Gardin Bistro and Patisserie: Fancy having lunch in a real life fairy kingdom? Gardin is exactly that! Nestled in amongst tropical ferns and foliage does this greenhouse arise. With its glass roof and rainbow bobble cushions on their chairs you'll feel like you have been transported to Fern Gully! Save some room for after your decadent lunch to try the beautifully handcrafted desserts that look works of art! If the boys are busy sinking Bintangs around the pool...then make a girly escape and enjoy their daily high tea!
-
MoVida Bali: Hola! Move over MoVida in Melbourne because your little sister has opened its doors in Seminyak and she's quickly making a name for herself! Following in her big sisters footsteps MoVida Seminyak refines Spanish style cooking into flavoursome parcels of goodness each tapas bursting with excitement and to be shared with friends and family as you exchange all your Balinese holiday stories. The menu is bold and the pisco sours are ballsey. Enjoy a night out with flair and flavour.
-
Teatro Gastroteque: If you feel your above eating corn on a beach and pairing it with a long neck Bintang matching your same brand singlet...and you know which knife and fork to pick from the 5 on either side of your plate at one of those "fancy" restaurants...then Teatro is for you. It is a boutique fine dining restaurant that will not only deliver immaculate service but exquisite and mind blowing dishes to will satisfy tastebuds you didn't even know you had. Mama San Bali: It's Sarongs baby sister! Same concept, same expertise, same delicious Asian fused menu but with a casual and rustic vibe. Sorry kids....along with Sarong....you get to hang with the babysitter for the night while the parents get to enjoy some spicy culinary pleasures!
-
Bambu: This open air Indonesian restaurant is set on a man made island surrounded by water! How bloody cool! It serves all your Indonesian favourites, it has the heart of a traditional warung but the modern elegance to deliver you a truly fine dining experience. Again, kids....so you don't have a side of pool with your Nasi Goreng...it'd be best to stay back at the resort pool while the olds go and enjoy!
-
Sardine: This restaurant is perched on the edge of a big rice paddie field...depending on what time of the year you may visit, your backdrop can differ...from the shallow waters, with the lantern torches echoing their glow on the mirrored surfaces or the ripe lush green of the new crop bursting through...which ever one you get, it surely is a wonderful delight to be transported back to a more traditional style Balinese restaurant that offers so much more than just...Sardines! POOL CLUBS
DO NOT come to Bali without visiting at least one pool or beach club! It is an absolute MUST! I know, I know, you have visions of a mammoth group of 18 year olds on their first ever trip away from mummy and daddy, trying their first ever beer in a plastic cup and not knowing when to stop, married with loud music and some pumped up steroid freaks that are lost on their way home from Stereosonic...but you can't be further from the truth! Yep, we were surprised too when we made the move to visit our first pool club...wondering whether we were making good parenting decisions dragging our young children to this "club" You see in Australia...when you say "club" it evokes images of the before years, 3am, wondering how I'm going to get home since I spent my taxi money in the hot sweaty stale beer smelling venue and of 20-something year olds on parade like peacocks...
BUT...
in Bali..."club" means you have exclusive access to sit in your private cabana all day, lazing in the sun whilst your attendant waits on you hand and foot! During the day ALL the pool clubs are family friendly and absolutely appropriate to bring your little ones to play in the sand or pool while you sip on your frozen cocktail in a pineapple! When the sunsets, the younger crowd sets in and they turn into an adult only venue...but who wants to be there at that time anyway!
A lot of pool and beach clubs may have a minimum spend, but it is certainly worth it...
So choose one, at least from the following list...pretend your bloody Cleopatra for the day and treat yourself to a day of pure luxury!!!

-
Ku De Ta: this pool club was the very first to open in Bali! Introducing others to open and follow suit! Its set at the very end of Eat St (so you can eat your way to your sun lounger) and with its infinity pool that overlooks the main drag of Seminyak you'll be happy as a pig in mud spending your entire day here!
-
Potato Head: probably now Bali's most popular pool club and when you arrive at the grand entrance all made out of old windows and doors that spits you out to a view that is second to none, you'll know what all the fuss is about! Get there early to claim a daybed...but if you don't score one there are PLENTY of options of where to hang for the day...and hey, why pay to get a daybed when you can perch yourself at the swim up bar overlooking the beach....for freeeeeeeee!
-
Mrs Sippy: I would have to say that Mrs Sippy is definitely our favourite in Seminyak. It basically is a huge man made beach with a feel of the Greek isles. You can choose from a cabana, sun loungers, hammocks, sit in the sand on the beach or grab a seat in their restaurant. The pool has a great diving tower with 3 levels to keep the kids entertained and also the adults (while you watch some crazies attempting the jumps) their cocktails are creative and the beats from the DJ are mellow. We definitely forgot what day it was here! Our top pick!
-
The W: Well excuse me while I pretend I'm the queen of Sheba for the day! When you turn the corner into The long driveway of manicured gardens at The W, you know you're in for a day of bliss! Unfortunately, if you are not a guest at the hotel you cannot use the loungers surrounding the pool but you CAN set up shop for the day at their Woobar which is....in fact, beside the pool! When we arrived all the day beds were taken to my disappointment, but the attendants here will do ANYTHING to make you enjoy your day! They quickly shuffles pretty much every piece of furniture they had to create my own day bed, gave me a table for my drinks and one for my food! Service here is impeccable. The pool is beautiful. The scenery overlooking the beach sitting in amongst palm trees...idyllic! it was well worth the almost $300 bill we racked up here!
-
Cocoon: Cocoon beach club is set back just off the beach, not beachfront as it seems to sometimes proclaim...but still makes up for it with its awesome facilities! Let the kiddies play in the pool while you make the hard choice of what cocktail you'd like choose first. The DJ will journey you with a tropical playlist to the sunny shores of Ibiza!
-
Azul: This place is like a bamboo palace, hanging chairs at the bar, lounges that are suspended out from the main structure pointing at the sunset and sandy floors to feel the beach between your toes! Cool off after a couple of (what I feel the most amazingly designed) cocktails in Bali in the infinity pool and relax in a sun lounge. if you want to feel like your in a tropical haven...head here!
-
La Plancha: Not really a club as such, but a seriously awesome bar on the beach. This restaurant has hundreds of colourful bean bags and matching umbrellas to match for you to enjoy a casual night letting the kids play in the sand while you tune out to the DJ playing some seriously cool chillhouse beats to compliment the Seminyak sunset. Get here around 4pm to score a good seat for sundowners. Don't forget your camera!!!
-
Alila: Another pool club, another inifinity, again overlooking the beach, again....amazing to watch the sunset! Alila has everything you want and more! Attached the Alila Hotel, you'll receive great service, awesome beats and a view that is breathtaking!
