WHERE TO GO

So, I have a theory on balance...I LOVE nothing more than a fresh green vegan nourish bowl, I eat chickpeas turned into a garlic homus for fun, get a thrill out of drinking the nastiest green cold pressed juices and finish with a paleo bliss ball....on most days...but the conflicting ying and yang in me has me other days driving through Maccas for a cheeseburger and washing it down with a icy cold beer.

I would love nothing more to be completely vegan...as a matter a fact I DID grow up a vegetarian, but marrying a man that considers it a sin not to eat meat I finally gave in and had my first steak around 21 and now I am officially a meat and 3 veg type of girl...

But every now and then my heart tugs me to my mothers paleo upbringing of me and I long to get back to my plant based roots and enjoy a beautifully prepared meal that has been ethically and nutritiously foraged for my satisfaction...and thus...I love Canggu.

It's focus of healthy living, plant based diets, vegan and organic nutrition makes me feel restored. The bright hues of the vegetables remind me of rainbows and the smell of the tropical salads radiate the islands warmth.

Against my husbands carnivore spirit animal, I drag him to these organic shacks...to make me feel better...

about the steak and beer I'll have that night!

Ommmmmmmmmmmm.

POOL CLUBS

in no particular order! These pool clubs are seriously some of the raddest venues in Bali! If you are not staying in the area, it's definitely worth grabbing your private driver to take you out to Canggu for the day for a visit!

  1. Panama Kitchen and pool: a seriously cool art deco/tropical fusion that will have you feeling like you're sitting in a 1960s film in the middle the Caribbean sea. It's only a quaint establishment, but where they lack in size...the make up in their homely service and hearty food!

  2. Finns Beach Club: Finns (once located in Uluwatu) has moved to Canggu!! And they've brought their island vibes with them! Located right on Berawara surf break, get the best of both worlds and let the boys grab a wave while you enjoy being a surf widow in pool club luxury!

  3. La Laguna: Gypsy wonderland. It's the only way to describe this place. So many nooks and little cute pathways to secret dining overlooking the lagoon on the beach. Grab a Moroccan pillow on the lawn under the fairylights or dine in amongst the coconut trees and watch the sun go down. Regardless of where you are, you're going to absolutely fall in love with this hippie paradise!

  4. La Brisa: If you dream of being lost on a deserted island with hammocks, swings and bamboo shacks...then the newly opened La Brisa (the latest of the "La" group to fling its doors open) has it all. Boats as seats, grassy Knowles to laze on, a sun deck overlooking Echo beach. Its magic and definitely worth a stick beak! Note: only the first stage of La Brisa has been completed, still worth a visit...but it will be such an amazing venue once completed!

  5. The Lawn: progressed from literally just a lawn with a kombi on it serving drinks...these guys have now transformed it into a "must do venue". The lawn is still there, but now you have an umbrella, cushions and small tables to place your cocktails on. An infinity pool merging into the ocean background with day beds surrounding. Grab a cocktail from the swim up tiki bar and enjoy!

  6. Old Mans: the original beach bar venue in Canggu, Old mans is perched right on the beach. It's relaxed atmosphere brings a crowd that literally jumps straight out of the surf and looking for some tucker and a cold Bintang. A great venue for an impromptu dinner, great music and awesome brightly coloured décor!

  7. Vue Beach Club: I've seen mixed reviews of Vue, I haven't been there myself...but of late the reviews have been good! A must quieter joint to get away from the crowds. Choose from sun beds, cabanas that sit right on top of the beachfront infinity pool or just grab a table to enjoy their delicious menu. If you're looking to escape the crazy madness of Bali for the day...then it looks as though Vue will have you sorted!
